The divide between the government and the PTI is not healed by Alvi’s mediation. The president meets with a PDM delegation and transmits the government’s take to Imran.
LAHORE/ISLAMABAD:
The ruling coalition is hopeful that modest talks with the former ruling party can lessen the threat before the window of opportunity expires as PTI head Imran Khan intensifies his vow to dissolve assemblies.
The political temperature is continuing to rise, but despite the infrequent talks, neither side demonstrated any desire to ease tensions regarding the “sticking point” — early elections.
The discussions, which are being mediated by President Arif Alvi, are being tempered by the fact that both sides have officially declared their opposition to fast elections.
According to reliable sources who spoke to The Express Tribune, President Arif Alvi briefed the PTI leader on a series of meetings he had with PML-N members. The efforts, however, did not result in “any wins,” as both parties made it clear that they were unwilling to give up their respective stances.
The PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry also verified the situation, telling The Express Tribune that the president met with Imran Khan and conveyed information about his conversations with the previous prime minister.
The government has no intention of holding elections, so the PTI had no choice except to take to the streets and call polls in the provinces it controls, according to a high leadership meeting that later evaluated the occurrences.
President Alvi was informed of the center’s position on the demands made by the former prime minister during a meeting with the PDM team, which included Federal Minister Ayaz Sadiq and Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarrar.
According to sources, the 45-minute meeting with coalition government officials at the President’s House covered topics like the nation’s economic state, the current political climate, and legislative problems.
It was decided that talks on topics pertaining to the adjournment of assembly or the end of the current term of office will continue.
When contacted for comment on the situation, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb remarked that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif believed in consensus and consultations, “unlike propagandist Imran Khan who has proven to be a divisive corrosive force instead of exhibiting leadership.”

“The nation is moving toward economic and political stability as 99.9% of the political parties have a majority-represented government,” she continued.
The change occurred when PTI Chairman Imran Khan announced that he would make the announcement on December 17 on the date for the dissolution of the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies.
In a speech to the nation, he said, “I have finished discussions with the party and we have decided that in a gathering at Lahore’s Liberty Chowk, I will tell my nation the date for the dissolution of the KP and Punjab parliament.”
In Lahore, Alvi
Later, in an effort to put out the political fire, President Arif Alvi flew to Lahore for a three-day visit to hold what were being referred to as “last-ditch” discussions.
The president briefed the former prime minister on his meetings with the administration during their meeting at Imran Khan’s Zaman Park mansion in the provincial capital. They also talked about getting ready to carry out their plan to dissolve assembly this month if the talks break down.
The president is also scheduled to meet with Chief Minister Parvez Elahi during his visit to address the current political climate and the dissolution of the assembly.
It is important to know that President Alvi and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar have had numerous discussions about elections, the economy, and security in Islamabad. However, because the government refused to hold talks with conditions, the conversation is still going nowhere.
Pervez Khattak, the key figurehead of the PTI, has stated that only President Arif Alvi can reveal the contents of any discussions with the government.
“I have no knowledge of the discussions with the government. “Only the president would be able to inform you about the discussions,” he told reporters as they approached his home in Zaman Park.
However, he emphasised that the discussions with the administration will only take place if the election date is covered.
He noted that the PML-Q was a crucial ally and fully committed to the PTI and that the timing for the dissolution of the assembly had not yet been determined.
The date for the dissolution of legislatures will be revealed by Imran Khan on Saturday. The precise day when the assemblies were dissolved is something that only Imran Khan knows,” he continued.
He emphasised that the only way to get the country out of the dilemma was to conduct elections.
Coalescing coalition
While the ruling coalition was being battered by strong headwinds, a delegation from the MQM-P met with Asif Ali Zardari, co-chairman of the PPP, to reaffirm the coalition’s undivided stance to addressing the political difficulties.
The team talked about the non-implementation of the deal reached with the federal government and the government of Sindh.
Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, the MQM-convener, P’s was in charge of the delegation. Waseem Akhtar and Kamran Tessori, the governor of Sindh, were additional party members.
The two parties committed to working together in consultation on the building and development of the province.
The MQM-P team met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif earlier in the day and expressed concerns about the non-implementation of the deal reached with the PPP and the centre.
Sources added that the group also complained against the PPP and bemoaned that the dominant party in the province was not honouring its commitments. “If the Sindh and federal governments are not fulfilling their promises, then we will take our own decision,” sources claimed quoting the delegation.
PM Shehbaz promised to discuss the delegation’s complaints with the PPP.
