In order to approve the decisions made by Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi and party leader Imran Khan, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday called for a meeting of its parliamentary party in Punjab.

The resolutions were also approved yesterday by all 10 of the Pakistan Muslim League-(PML-Q) Quaid’s members of the Punjab Assembly.

The PML-Q and PTI have made the decision to stick together and defend CM Elahi against the no-trust motion and vote of confidence.

The no-confidence motion brought by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) will be voted on either next Friday or Saturday.

According to constitutional protocol, the speaker’s office receives a notification seven days after receiving the no-confidence motion, and the assembly votes three to seven days after the notification.

Only 177 votes are needed for a vote of no confidence, while the opposition needs 186. PTI and PML-Q together have 187, in contrast.

In an effort to prevent the dissolution of the Punjab assembly, a delegation of members from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and PML-N earlier tabled a no-confidence vote against Elahi.

The Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman quickly issued an order instructing the Elahi to request a vote of confidence from the assembly on Wednesday, December 21. This decision put the PTI’s intentions to dissolve the legislature on Friday, December 23 in jeopardy.

Elahi must take a vote of confidence at any costs, according to PML-N Chief Whip Khalil Tahir Sindhu, or he would lose his job as leader of the Punjab government.

Sibtain Khan, speaker of the Punjab Assembly, reportedly ruled the governor’s summons invalid. The PTI-affiliated speaker insisted that the session for a vote of confidence cannot be called while the House is in session.

According to PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry, his party and the PML-Q will work together to oppose the no-trust resolution and vote of confidence against Elahi.

A no-confidence resolution against the chief minister cannot be moved after that, according to the legislation, and the parliament cannot be dissolved. The chief minister must make sure he secures 186 votes in the assembly in order to comply with the governor’s recent order that he seek a vote of confidence from the house.
