Flights were delayed as fog blankets Putting in place a plan in Punjab to make it easier for smog-affected flights to land at the Islamabad airport.
RAWALPINDI: On Friday, flight operations were disrupted and delayed as a heavy, thick cloud of smog continued to cover the region. This prompted the administrators at Islamabad International Airport to come up with a strategy for the arrival of smog-diverted flights.
As a hazardous level of dense fog impairs vision in numerous towns in Punjab, including Lahore and Sialkot, officials claim that the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and airlines have taken coordinated actions to ensure safe air travel for customers.
Authorities at the Islamabad International Airport have developed a plan for the arrival of smog-diverted flights and their secure landing in order to achieve this goal.
According to the itinerary, 33 of these flights will be run from the airport at the moment. 16 domestic and international departures, as well as 17 arrivals, were redirected.
The sources added that the diverted flights are separate from the regularly scheduled flights and that four of them have already left Islamabad airport with 607 passengers and 29 staff members on board.
Similarly to that, three diverted flights totaling 650 passengers touched down at the airport in Islamabad. The majority of the passengers, who were from Lahore and other places, apparently took buses to return to their hometowns later.
It should be remembered that a day before, roughly seven flights that were supposed to land at Sialkot, Multan, and Lahore airports were diverted to Islamabad due to dense fog and poor visibility.
A task group has been established by the civil aviation authority to address passenger concerns about delayed, cancelled, or diverted flights in light of the current situation.
To help passengers, the task force is responsible for coordinating with airlines, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and the Airport Security Force.
Additionally, it will work in tandem with airline personnel to plan passenger accommodations, meals, and transportation. In order to ensure that there was no rush in the airport parking, he noted that the task force would also interact with the traffic police.
