Imran Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stated on Sunday that his party would not care if the elections were postponed for whatever reason following the dissolution of the two provincial assemblies.

Imran underlined that his party would stick to its initial strategy of dissolving the Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) assemblies in remarks to a small group of prominent media at his Zaman Park mansion.

The former prime minister reaffirmed his prior claim that Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, the chief minister of Punjab, would seek the province assembly’s vote of confidence before January 11.

Imran said that the delay would not matter when asked if the polls were postponed for whatever reason following the dissolution of the Punjab and K-P assemblies, where the PTI was in power.

The administration will have to schedule nationwide elections when the two provincial assemblies are dissolved, Imran added. Nevertheless, he continued, “any delay in the general elections following the dissolution of both assemblies would not harm the PTI.”

On November 26, near the end of his long march, Imran made an announcement on the dissolution of assemblies in Rawalpindi. On December 17, he decided to dissolve the partnership on December 23.

Governor Balighur Rehman of Punjab issued an order to Chief Minister Elahi on December 21 to ask the provincial legislature for a vote of confidence two days later. On that particular day, the speaker did not, however, call the session.

As a result, Chief Minister Rehman was de-notified by Governor Rehman, and Elahi appealed the decision to the Lahore High Court (LHC). On the condition that he promise not to dissolve the parliament before January 11 — the next hearing date – the court reinstalled him as the chief minister.

Imran told reporters that he was confident the chief minister would prevail in the vote of confidence before the hearing on January 11 and then dissolve the legislature in accordance with the PTI’s plan.

“After our administration in Islamabad fell, we did not immediately proclaim the dissolution of the provincial assemblies. To include our collation partners in the decision-making process, we purposefully delayed the move, he said.

Invoking cricket terminology, the former prime minister observed, “A smart player never strives to strike every ball but selects the chance properly.” Once more, he predicted that the nation would have general elections in March or April.

Both the PTI and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) were determined to dissolving the provincial legislature, sooner or later, despite Elahi’s statement in the LHC stating that he would not.

Both parties are currently discussing the timing of the assembly’s dissolution as well as the conditions of their continued collaboration in the forthcoming general elections.

The senior leaderships of the PTI and the PML-Q have already held three rounds of negotiations to work out a seat-adjustment mechanism for the general elections.

Imran has previously stated that the PML-support Q’s for his party during difficult times despite external demands would ensure the continuation of their alliance.

Additionally on Sunday, Imran Khan oversaw a gathering of senior party figures to plan a course of action for Elahi’s vote of confidence. He received information on the seat adjustment talks with the PML-Q as well.

In the meantime, Imran claimed in a tweet that Pakistan’s inability to realise Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s vision for the country was due to the absence of justice and the rule of law in the region.

On the 146th anniversary of the nation’s founding, he wrote on his Twitter account to emphasise the importance of the rule of law in ensuring equality. He said, “This results in Haqeeqi Azadi, real freedom, and preservation of citizens’ rights.

This shields the populace from elite takeover of the state and its institutions. “Unfortunately, elite control of the country has allowed powerful institutions and mafias to remain above the law as if it were their right in Pakistan since the rule of law was never permitted to be established,” Imran lamented.
