Rizwan is one of the candidates for the ICC Men’s Twenty20 International Player of the Year award.
In a continuation of his record-setting performance from the previous year, the wicket-keeper batsman finished the year with 996 runs.

The ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year 2022 shortlist includes batters from three different continents. We examine their exploits in this section.

Suryakumar Yadav scored more than 1000 runs in a calendar year in the game’s shortest format thanks to a brilliant 2022, making him just the second batter to do so. He finished the year with the most runs scored, 1164 runs with an absurd strike rate of 187.43.

His total of 68 sixes in T20Is during the year is far and by the most anyone has ever scored in a calendar year. The fact that Yadav’s average was in the mid-40s speaks to how consistently he performed in the format. Yadav was the best men’s T20I batter in the year with two hundreds and nine half-centuries.

Yadav scored three fifties in six innings during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia, averaging close to 60 and batting at a strike rate of 189.68.

After the competition, he proceeded to have a fantastic year, scoring his second century in T20Is for the year during a bilateral series in New Zealand. Yadav also rose to the top of the MF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings throughout the year, scoring a career-high 890 rating points.

a performance to remember

There were many standout performances in what was an exceptional year for Yadav in T20Is. However, his incredible 117 off 55 balls against England in Nottingham, which was his first T20I hundred, stood out.

Yadav raised India from 31/3 in a run chase of 216 to lift India, giving the visitors a chance to knock down the target. India’s aspirations were dashed by his ejection, but he had India on the verge of an unbelievable victory.

Zimbabwean Sikandar Raza

24 games, 735 runs, and 25 wickets

The previous year

Sikandar Raza had a fantastic season both with the bat and the ball in T20 Internationals. For the Zimbabwe all-rounder, a fantastic year was topped off by an outstanding performance in the T20 World Cup in Australia.

Raza outscored the next best Zimbabwean batter in T20 Internationals by more than 250 runs with 735 runs this year at a strike rate of over 150. He also topped the team’s wickets table with 25 wickets at a fantastic economy rate of 6.13.

a performance to remember

Raza had a genuinely exceptional year with the bat, but his greatest performance occurred in a contest in which he had minimal impact. He took 3/25 with the ball before inflicting the run out off the penultimate ball to give Zimbabwe the one-run victory over Pakistan in the T20 World Cup, playing a significant part in Zimbabwe’s success.

England’s Sam Curran

19 games, 67 runs, and 25 wickets

The previous year

Sam Curran, the Player of the Tournament in the 2022 T20 World Cup, improved his bowling in T20s throughout the year, garnering praise in especially for his death bowling.

Due to England’s absence of important fast bowlers during the competition, Curran performed well to end the World Cup with 13 wickets, second only to Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga.

His tournament-best bowling performance of 5/10 against Afghanistan marked the first time an England bowler achieved a five-wicket haul in men’s T20Is. The left-arm fast made up for missing the competition in 2021 due to injury with an outstanding performance in Australia.

The success of England in capturing their second T20 World Cup, including a three-wicket haul in the championship, was largely due to Curran’s accomplishments.

The highlight of Curran’s year in this format was the spectacular T20 World Cup, and his best performance came in the final against Pakistan in Melbourne, where he allowed just 12 runs in his four overs while also picking up three wickets.

Mohammad Rizwan, Shan Masood, and Mohammad Nawaz were among his victims as Pakistan only managed to score 137 runs, which England was able to surpass with an extra over.

Pakistani national Mohammad Rizwan

25 matches, 9 catches, and 3 stumpings for a total of 996 runs.

The previous year

The wicketkeeper batsman, who set a record in T20Is in 2021, scored 996 runs in the calendar year. In men’s T20Is, only Suryakumar Yadav scored more runs during the year.
