The PPP continues to make headway in Balochistan.
During their meeting with Zardari, several “electables” joined the party, including some former federal and provincial ministers.
After meeting with former president and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Zardari in Karachi on Sunday, numerous former Baloch parliamentarians joined the party, giving the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) more political clout in the province.
Sardar Fateh Mohammed Husni, a former federal minister, Nawabzada Gazin Marri, Tahir Mahmood, the Coordinator to Chief Minister Nawabzada Jamal Raisani of Balochistan, Mir Farid Raisani, Mir Abdullah Rahaija, and Mir Allah Bux Rind were among those who joined the PPP.
Prior to this, in Zardari’s presence, three former provincial ministers from the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), namely Mir Zahoor Buledi, Saleem Khan Khoso, and Mir Arif Jan Muhammad Hassani, decided to join the PPP.
The PPP and Balochistan have a long history together, according to Zardari, who welcomed the newcomers to the party by stating that the PPP has always fought for the rights of the inhabitants of the nation’s largest province. He continued by saying that the PPP would never jeopardise the rights of the Baloch people.
Political analysts think that Balochistan, which has been governed by the BAP for more than four years, is experiencing winds of change. They claimed that the changing of allegiances typically occurs as “the electables” anticipate winning more prestigious positions as the general elections draw closer.
This year is the scheduled year for national elections. And this time, the PPP is being favoured, as it has backing in some provincial constituencies. Since its founding in the late 1960s, the party has political roots in Naseerabad, Jaffarabad, Makran, Lasbela, Quetta, and other areas.
Political analysts predict that the PPP would prevail in the 2019 general elections, despite the fact that the party was unable to gain even one seat in the 2018 general elections. The PPP appeared to be in a better position after the joining of electables in Balochistan, according to a leading journalist in Quetta.
Former Balochistan chief minister Sanaullah Zehri and Gen. (ret.) Qadir Baloch switched sides and joined the PPP during the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) campaign against the former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) administration as a result of their disagreements with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
