The names of fifty women from Asia and the Pacific who have achieved new heights in their respective fields are included on the Forbes 50 over 50 list, which includes Rehman and Justice Malik.
Justice Ayesha Malik, the country of Pakistan’s Supreme Court’s first female judge, and Senator Sherry Rehman, the country’s minister for climate change, have been named to Forbes’ “50 Over 50: Asia 2023” list.
According to the business journal, the list features 50 Asian-Pacific women over 50 who are breaking new ground in their fields and serving as role models for the region’s youth.
In a piece about Justice Malik, Forbes noted that, in the 75-year history of Pakistan, she was the first woman to hold the position of justice on the Supreme Court. Previously, Malik worked for ten years as a judge on the Lahore High Court, where he rendered decisions regarding the recognition of foreign arbitration in Pakistan and sat on the Green Bench to promote environmental justice.
“In 2021, Malik made a landmark decision banning virginity tests in rape cases. She also served as chair of the Judicial Officers Female Supervisory Committee and as a member of the board of the Punjab Judicial Academy, the statement emphasised.
Justice Ayesha was named one of the 100 most important and inspirational women of 2022 by the BBC in December of that year.
The list also highlighted the role that women played in the world’s conflicts last year.
The BBC emphasised that Justice Ayesha has written decisions upholding women’s rights, including a “landmark decision which prohibited the so-called two-finger test of rape victims” that was applied while examining allegations of sexual assault.
According to Forbes, who highlighted Rehman’s accomplishments, “At the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference (COP27), Rehman made global headlines by advocating a new deal to send money from rich countries to poor ones that had suffered from climate-related calamities.”
According to the magazine, “She was the first female to hold office as Leader of Opposition in the Senate in 2018.”
