ISLAMABAD: After the hospital’s status as an associated department of the federal health ministry was restored, top officials of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) began to argue.

Sources claim that after taking over as the hospital’s acting executive director, Dr. Rizwan Taj has annulled every appointment made by Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Durrani, joint executive director of PIMS, when the facility was operating under the Federal Medical Teaching Institute Act 2021.

Earlier, the Federal Medical Teaching Institute Act 2021 was repealed and the hospital’s prior status was restored when President Dr. Arif Alvi inked the “Federal Medical Teaching Institute Repeal Bill 2022.”

PIMS Acting Executive Director Dr. Rizwan Taj allegedly ordered the filing of a FIR at the Karachi Company Police Station against Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Durrani and others after they allegedly removed the nameplates of some officers who had been hired when the hospital was operating under the MTI Act.

The nameplates of Drs. Khalid Masood and Hashim Raza, who occupy important positions at the hospital, were allegedly removed on the evening of January 11 at the request of Dr. Iqbal Durrani, according to the lawsuit brought on behalf of Joint Executive Director Chaudhry Waris.

According to the FIR, management officials and PIMS staff members have expressed considerable concern over Dr. Durrani and the security personnel’s actions. It stated that such behaviour amounted to upsetting and jeopardising the hospital’s quiet.
