The head of the PML-N has called for a comparison to be made between his own and Imran Khan’s terms as prime minister.

LONDON: The leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N), Nawaz Sharif, on Thursday blamed the establishment of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in 2018 on the actions of former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) director general General Faiz Hameed and former army chief General (retd) Qamar Bajwa.

After a lengthy absence, Nawaz spoke to media representatives in London and referred to his Gujranwala 2020 address, in which he had accused both of the generals, who were in office at the time, of rigging the 2018 elections.

He insisted that “everyone was aware” of who is liable and that no faces or names were concealed when asked if he held the former head of the army staff Gen Bajwa and the former spymaster Gen Faiz accountable for the status of the nation.

He stated, “They have played a terrible joke on Pakistan by spinning it around themselves.

Nawaz asserted that it was his “duty” to expose those who were behind the nation’s harshness. He continued by saying it was also his duty to educate the public and “address” the problems.

In order to demonstrate how prosperous people were under the PML-N administration, the former premier also asked for a comparison between his term as prime minister and that of PTI leader Imran Khan.

Nawaz said that the “madman’s four years” caused the public suffering in a barely disguised allusion to Imran.

“We have taken control of the administration to aid Pakistan in overcoming its difficulties. Otherwise, he [Imran] had brought us to the brink of ruin with the predicament he had created.

The PML-N leader went on to say that his group will assist Pakistan in overcoming its problems and that it was feasible for the nation to “stand on its own feet.”

In order to discuss the current state of Pakistan, Nawaz was accompanied in London by his daughter, the party’s senior vice president Maryam Nawaz, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, and other PML-N leaders.

While Nawaz Sharif’s visit to Pakistan has been put on indefinite hold, Maryam Nawaz, the party’s newly chosen head organiser, will visit the nation in the coming days to formally launch the election campaign.

After meeting Nawaz and Maryam at his London home, Sanaullah reportedly announced that the party’s senior vice president would be returning to Pakistan the next week, but he also stated that the party’s election campaign will be directed by both father and daughter.

He claimed that the purpose of his trip to London was to get advice from the party leader about issues in Punjab. He added that he was the provincial leader of the party in the region where informal election preparations have started.

He said that Nawaz had the support of the entire party. He also emphasised how crucial Nawaz’s return to the nation was to the party’s success.
