Imran asserts that the former army leader was responsible for Nawaz’s removal in the Panama affair.
PTI head acknowledges the existence of an “establishment,” but expresses remorse over Bajwa’s determination to avoid accountability for his actions.
Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), disclosed that General (ret.) Qamar Javed Bajwa “sent two brigaders” in the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) in the Panama Papers case. This investigation ultimately resulted in the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif, who was the premier at the time.
Imran reaffirmed his position that Bajwa ‘changed’ when he was awarded an extension in his tenure in 2019, saying so in an interview that was broadcast on a private channel.
Imran emphasised that “before the extension, he used to sit journalists down and tell them how much corruption they [political leaders] have been involved in.” However, after the extension, the same political leaders were “brought into power.” “General (ret) Bajwa used to pressure me to focus my energy on the economy and forget about accountability,” said Imran.
“In their JIT, Gen (retd) Bajwa had sent two brigadiers that later proved Nawaz Sharif’s Panama case,” he said, adding that this was the reason that “to this date, Nawaz Sharif refuses to forgive Bajwa.” “In their JIT, Gen (retd) Bajwa had sent two brigadiers that later proved Nawaz Sharif’s Panama case,” he said.
Imran defended his decision to rely on the “deep state” when he was in administration, despite the fact that he made it in the past.
“This nation does, in fact, have an establishment, and at the present time, it is the only institution that can be considered whole and well-run. If you try to do something through the army, you will be successful “he said.
Imran added that when it came to the handling of the coronavirus pandemic as well as other health and natural emergencies, “they were able to do things the bureaucracy and health department could not.” He was counting the “positives” of the situation.
“On the other hand, if they make a decision that something should not be done, then it simply cannot be done. If this is the case, there is neither accountability nor the rule of law “he added.
Imran’s speech comes two days after Nawaz blamed former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) director general and former army chief General Faiz Hameed responsible for the current condition of affairs in the country. Imran’s comment comes two days after Nawaz’s statement.
According to what he had previously stated, “they have spun Pakistan around themselves and have played a horrible joke on the country.”
It is also important to remember that the supremo of the PML-N has in the past claimed that the JIT was biassed against him and that this is something that should be taken into consideration.
The PTI was “not locally organised in Sindh,” according to the report.
When Imran was asked about his thoughts on the recent elections for the local bodies in Sindh, he admitted that the PTI’s local organisations “did not function as they should have such that it could win despite electoral cheating.”
The leader of the PTI stated that even though there was “widespread rigging” in the by-elections that were held in Punjab the previous year, “people turned out in such a manner that we still emerged triumphant.”
Despite this, he believed that the Sindh LG elections should be cancelled since it was impossible to hold elections that were free and fair.
