In Sindh’s upcoming elections, the PPP and PML-N plan to run together as an united ticket. Ghani claims the PPP wants JI to collaborate with them.
KARACHI:
The leadership of PPP and PML-N Sindh has declared that the two parties will cooperate in all by-elections and general elections in Sindh as PTI members are anticipated to resign from their positions.
The PPP has received the complete backing of the PML-N leadership in the race for mayor.
Saeed Ghani, a PPP provincial minister and the leader of the Karachi Division, has also stated his intention to cooperate with Jamat e Islami (JI), noting that it finished second in the most recent elections for local bodies in Karachi.
“We have already stated that we want Jamaat-e-Islami to join us because we think that the people of Karachi granted JI a mandate in the same way that they gave us a “heavy mandate”.”
He added that “similarly, the people of Karachi had handed eight seats to PML-N and two to the JUI.” PPP currently holds 96 seats, JI 82, and PTI 43.
After meeting with PML-N leaders at the home of PML-N Sindh President Shah Mohammad Shah, he shared these opinions with the media.
Senator Waqar Mehdi, Najmi Alam, and Ghani served as the PPP delegation’s leaders. Mehdi is the party’s general secretary for Sindh. The conference was also attended by Syed Nisar Shah, MNA Khel Das Kohistani, Hamesha Bhatija, Khalid Sheikh, and Additional Secretary Chaudhary M Tariq of the PML-N Sindh.
In response to a query, Ghani stated that every party coveted the job of mayor and that, morally, the PPP, the single largest party, had the right to hold it.
He stated that the JI was the “top priority” of the PPP to engage with and that all parties had the right to communicate with one another.
The PPP and JI meeting, Karachi’s condition following the municipal elections, and other significant issues were discussed at the huddle.
Shah Mohammad Shah later declared during a joint news conference that both parties had the same views on other political problems, such as the growth of the city.
“Whichever candidate we present for the mayor of Karachi will be based on merit, and we will work together for the development of the city and province. We’re hoping the rest of the populace will join us.
The PPP and PML-N, according to Shah, will take part in the upcoming general and by-elections in the hopes that Nawaz Sharif will soon return to Pakistan.
He stated that Maryam Nawaz would likely return on January 28 or 29.
Ghani responded to PTI’s claim that the PPP’s mandate in Sindh was invalid by saying, “Everyone knows about the general elections of 2018 [where PTI won].”
In response to JI’s concerns about the mayor’s powers, he noted that the law specifically mentions those powers and added that whoever assumes that position will adhere to norms and regulations.
