The plea by the police to extend Fawad’s physical remand was granted by the court.
The police filed an appeal against the decision of a sessions court to reject a plea for further physical remand.

Fawad Chaudhry, the head of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was again placed under physical custody by the police on Saturday in Islamabad, overturning an earlier decision by a judicial magistrate.

The hearing’s judge, Tahir Mehmood Khan, also gave the investigators till today to bring the former minister of information before a magistrate.

After requesting that the police bring Fawad into court, the court earlier put its decision on hold.

Earlier, a judge had denied the police’s request for a prolongation of Fawad’s physical remand and instead had placed him in Adiala Jail for a 14-day judicial remand.

The charge of sedition brought against Fawad for “threaten[ing]]” the chief election commissioner (CEC) and other members of the Election Commission of Pakistan was being heard in court (ECP).

Police filed an appeal against the earlier judgement placing the PTI leader on judicial detention, asking that Judicial Magistrate Waqas Ahmed Raja’s decision be overturned and that Fawad be placed under additional physical remand.

The prosecutor said that because the police only had a one-day remand, they were unable to finish the investigation because they had to conduct photogrammetry tests and recoveries.

The PTI politician was detained in Lahore on Wednesday on sedition-related charges after allegedly “threaten[ing]” the CEC and other members of the Pakistani Election Commission (ECP).

After that, Fawad was given to the police by an Islamabad court for a two-day physical remand.

On Friday, as the remand period came to a conclusion, he was brought before Judicial Magistrate Waqas Ahmed Raja in front of a heavily guarded audience.
