The Supreme Court registrar’s office in ISLAMABAD objected to a constitutional petition filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday asking for elections to be held no more than 90 days after the dissolution of parliament.

The application was sent back because the former ruling party did not exhaust lower-level remedies before going to the Supreme Court.

Although the PTI had included President Arif Alvi as a respondent, the registrar ruled that the petition could not include the president because Article 248 does not apply to him.

According to the registrar’s office, the petition did not specify the petitioner’s fundamental right that had been violated.

It further stated that the petition did not satisfy the requirements for seeking proceedings before the Supreme Court under Article 184/3.
