In Islamabad, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) will hear on December 7 both Quaid Nawaz Sharif’s (PML-N) appeal against his conviction in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills case and the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) plea for a longer sentence.
The IHC Registrar’s Office released a cause list on Friday that said both cases would be heard by a division bench led by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and made up of Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb.
In 2018, an accountability court found Nawaz guilty in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills case and sentenced him to seven years in jail. He had fought his sentence in the IHC. At the same time, NAB also filed an appeal with the IHC to ask that Nawaz’s term be lengthened.
The IHC agreed to hear Nawaz’s appeal against his sentence in the Avenfield case earlier this week.
The court quickly also talked about how Maryam Nawaz and Capt (retd) Safdar were found not guilty in the same case.
The order said that NAB did not have any written proof to support the case against Nawaz. Because of this, the leader of the PML-N was able to review his sentence and was found not guilty of any charges.
