RAWALPINDI: On Sunday, a duty judge gave Fawad Chaudhry, a former leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), to the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) for one day of physical detention in a fraud case.
A court against corruption will now show the former federal minister on Monday, December 11.
The lawyer for ACE asked for Fawad to be physically detained for five days and said that a private housing plan paid him Rs3.5 million for giving a “no objection certificate” (NOC), and that money needs to be returned.
From Adila jail, the former minister was brought to the duty judge in a big armored car.
Faisal Chaudhry, Fawad’s lawyer, said that the case was false and was made for political reasons. He said that the owners of the housing society have nothing to worry about and that false accusations are being made for no good reason. He also asked that Fawad be released from the case and given bail.
While he was there, Fawad spoke out against making up false cases and said, “No press conference has been held to address these issues.”
Sources had told The Express Tribune before that the investigation would find out if other public and private leaders were involved. The case was filed after legal action was allowed after the source report was looked into.
The First Information Report (FIR), which The Express Tribune has access to, says that Fouq Sherbaz is a well-known figure in corruption and other criminal activities. He is also the cousin of former federal minister Fawad Chaudhary.
This was looked into by ACE Rawalpindi in April 2023. Some proof showed that Fouq Sherbaz and Fawad may have abused their power by stealing more than 10 million rupees from the private housing society’s management. The investigating officer said that a case should be brought against the suspect.
Because of what they found, ACE Rawalpindi filed a case against the suspects and put together teams to arrest them.
