Umar Dar, the brother of former party leader Usman Dar, was ‘abducted’ in Lahore, according to the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), which accused PML-N leader Khawaja Asif of planning the kidnapping to damage the Dar family’s electoral prospects. The forthcoming elections are scheduled to take place in May and June.
The mother of Umar disclosed the ‘abduction’ of her son in a video that PTI posted online, and she pleaded on the chief justice of Pakistan to step in and investigate the matter immediately. This woman is a mother and a widow. What is happening right now is really upsetting to me. In her video statement, she pleaded with the CJP to make sure her son showed up to court.
“I am facing all these challenges solely to prevent me from participating in elections,” she stressed, expressing her concerns. The chance to submit my documents has been revoked, and now there are police officers stationed outside my house. I am making it clear that these measures are meant to make my campaign less popular.
The PTI condemned the “abduction of Umar Dar during the scrutiny phase in the election is another episode of the mockery of law going on in Pakistan” in an Instagram post.
“Unknown individuals from Lahore have abducted Umar, the son of Rehana Dar, who submitted her nomination papers from Sialkot to contest against Asif,” party chairman Omar Ayub Khan said, expressing his condemnation of the kidnapping and lending credence to the PTI’s accusations. According to Ayub,
He spoke with assurance, saying, “The reign of terror against PTI continues unabated,” and went on to say that he had faith in PTI lead by Imran Khan.
At the same time, Umar Dar’s recovery is being sought through a plea filed in the Lahore High Court. Abuzar Salman Niazi, Usman’s lawyer, brought attention to the ongoing political grudge against the Dar family in the appeal. It said that Dar’s family was being targeted politically and that Dar’s mum was running against Asif in the Sialkot elections.
The pleading asked the court to mandate the return of the missing person and their subsequent appearance in court.
This month, Dar’s mum said that the police and Khawaja Asif had raided their house in Sialkot and abused her.
“Police raided my house on Khawaja Asif’s orders,” Dar’s mother claimed in a video message. Their goal in physically abusing me and ripping my clothing was to keep me from casting a ballot in the elections.
She went on to detail the physical violence and horrific mistreatment she endured, which included a ripped collar. She insisted on running for office despite everything that had happened, saying that she had made her decision “from the heart” and in line with the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and Sunnah.
Regardless of the outcome, I shall cast my ballot in the elections. “I am prepared to face Khawaja Asif regardless of the consequences, including the destruction of her house or imprisonment. This decision is based on my deep devotion to Islam and the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and Sunnah,” she proclaimed.
