In a scathing attack on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Patron-in-Chief Jahangir Khan Tareen of the Islamkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) said on Friday that the party’s “cricket bat” election symbol couldn’t save it from its current state of disarray.
The decision by the Election Commission of Pakistan to invalidate the PTI’s intra-party polls and remove its popular emblem was suspended on Tuesday by the Peshawar High Court.
The PHC’s judgment mandated that the electoral body reinstate the PTI’s electoral emblem and publish the party’s certificate on its website.
The head of the IPP said in a statement that the judgment of the PHC “contradicted public expectations.”
The power to grant or revoke the election symbol to any political party, according to Tareen, rests with the ECP. He expressed national worry over the current political and domestic climate, saying that choices were made too quickly and unilaterally.
Those who undermine the country’s fundamentals do not deserve any concession, Tareen remarked. Why should individuals who tarnished Pakistan’s reputation abroad be granted a pass?
For three and a half years, the country’s economy was allegedly manipulated by the erstwhile ruling PTI, according to the IPP chief.
