Nawaz Sharif, supreme leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), made fun of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan on Wednesday for purportedly failing as prime minister despite lofty pledges, saying that Sharif is not the type of politician to forget commitments and do U-turns.

While he was prime minister, the country was making progress, but a “conspiracy” stopped it, he declared during a rally in Nankana Sahib.

If our administration hadn’t been overthrown in a plot, the highway from Sukkur would have come here long ago. Who terminated the 18-hour load-shedding? Voters should consider this before casting their ballots. When did sugar cost fifty rupees per kilogramme? Flour, lentils, vegetables, and gas were all less expensive in whose day,” he asked.

In spite of all the good that PML-N had done, like developing Gwadar Airport, providing peace to Karachi, building roads across the country, and operating Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses in several places, he was cuffed. “I was wondering what I had done wrong. He went on to say that it was the nation’s downfall because of the wealth it brought.

“When did the price of sugar go up from fifty to one hundred fifty rupees, roti from four to twenty rupees, and the dollar from one hundred forty-four to two hundred and seventy-five rupees?” he asked. How came this to pass? I was the prime minister of my own country; Imran Khan was the prime minister of Pakistan who failed miserably.

Imran caused himself problems: Dear Maryam,

While addressing the gathering, PML-N chief organiser Maryam Nawaz slammed Imran Khan—though she refrained from naming him—on the grounds that Nawaz Sharif was not responsible for his removal but had instead caused him difficulties.

There was no conspiracy to have you ousted by Nawaz Sharif, and he did not do it by lying. But Maryam said that you had dug your own hole.

The fight of the PML-N, she stressed, is against inflation and not against any one person. Costly energy, fuel, sugar, wheat, and bread are our enemies. Vote for the PML-N in large numbers on February 8 so that Nawaz Sharif can save you from inflation and unemployment, as he has done in every age.

“True, Nawaz Sharif is beloved by many, but he is loved by the people as well,” she said. What kind of popularity are we talking about when Nawaz Sharif isn’t even competing? You mentioned that after Nawaz Sharif was removed from the competition, our popularity skyrocketed. With Nawaz Sharif’s comeback, the real popularity contestant will be revealed.
