Officials announced on Sunday that over days of intense downpours, over 30 people had died in rain-related events, forcing thousands of schools to close.
Since Thursday, there has been a lot of rain, causing major disruption in several parts of the country. In Balochistan, for example, all schools have been closed till Thursday.
Building collapses in northwest Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) claimed the lives of 26 people, including 18 children.
According to Taimur Ali Khan, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority in K-P’s spokesperson, “a total of 27 individuals have lost their lives as a result of continuous rainfall over the past four days in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.”
Over 150 dwellings were damaged and one more person lost their life in a landslip.
Five people were murdered in Balochistan on Thursday and Friday when buildings fell, according to Jahanzain Khan, the chief of the disaster management organisation.
Major routes were blocked in Gilgit-Baltistan, while damaged roads, floods, and landslides have isolated villages in Balochistan from major towns, according to local media.
The Meteorological Department predicts more snow and rain for the area on Sunday.
