BEIJING: China requests that the US desist from destabilising the South China Sea by employing the Philippines as a pawn. A spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated on Wednesday that the Philippines must also resist American manipulation.

Speaking in response to a question about the unacceptable comments made by the US side over the recent collision between Chinese and Philippine vessels in the South China Sea, Spokesperson Mao Ning made the statements during a daily news briefing.

Ren’ai Jiao belongs to China’s Nansha Qundao, Mao observed. Ren’ai Jiao and the surrounding waterways of Nansha Qundao are unquestionably under Chinese authority. This is consistent with international law, including the UN Charter, and has been established over a lengthy period of history.

The China Coast Guard responded to the aggressive actions and violations by Philippine warships near Ren’ai Jiao by taking the appropriate legal action. She stated that the actions are without reproach, lawful, professional, restrained, and justified.

“Who is the provocateur behind this affair, causing trouble? Who violates international law and jeopardises South China Sea peace and stability? “It’s a crystal clear fact and truth,” Mao declared.

China has been the target of unjustified attacks by the US Department of State, which ignores facts and conflates right with wrong, regarding its legal and justifiable efforts to protect its rights. By using the US-Philippines Mutual Defence Treaty, the US has arbitrarily threatened China in an effort to give the Philippines more confidence and support for its provocative and infringing actions. Mao declared that China vehemently opposes it.

According to Mao, the so-called arbitral ruling from the South China Sea arbitration, which is regarded as a standard by the Philippines and a few other nations, violates international law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. It is also illegal and void.

A bilateral matter involving China and the Philippines is Ren’ai Jiao. It is not appropriate for the US or any other party to use this as an excuse to incite conflict or even to intervene. China is determined to protect its legal rights and will not back down from this. Mao emphasized that the Philippines’ attempts to cause disruptions and provoke others will fail.

Mao begs the US to desist from destabilizing the South China Sea by using the Philippines as a pawn. Additionally, the Philippines must resist American manipulation. History teaches us that a pawn will only be abandoned,” the woman remarked.
