KARACHI:
Ten of the fourteen fishermen who were missing from the boat that sank last week have been found by the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) and Pakistan Navy (PN), according to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement.
After the unfortunate boat capsized close to Thatta on Wednesday, at least 14 fishermen were listed as missing. Of the approximately forty-five fisherman on board the Al-Asad, only thirty-one were saved following the disaster.
PN and PMSA launched a search and rescue operation on March 5. Ten missing fishermen’s bodies were found by the rescue crew in spite of difficult circumstances like heavy marine traffic, rough waves, and the passage of time.
According to a press release from Naval Headquarters’ Directorate General PR, PMSS Rehmat made significant progress in the search operation today after obtaining information.
The concerned authorities received the recovered bodies. Today was the day that the four bodies that had been found earlier were buried.
“The ongoing search and rescue operation by PN and PMSA is a clear demonstration of PN’s commitment to providing assistance during any unfortunate incidents at sea”
The Maritime Security Agency, Pakistan Navy, and Fishermen’s Cooperative Society coordinated their attempts to rescue individuals in difficulty after other fishermen tried their own rescues. 43 fishermen were successfully rescued as a result of these efforts, but two were still unaccounted for, necessitating more search and rescue attempts. They were dropped at a jetty on the Thatta shore after being fished out by another launch.
