The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said that Karachi might get rain and clouds on Thursday (today) and Friday. This would be a welcome break from the extreme heatwave that the city is currently experiencing.
The Met Office says that thunderstorms will happen before the rain showers. It will probably rain in the afternoon and evening in the city’s neighborhoods.
A dust storm hit parts of Karachi on Wednesday, making the already hot and humid weather even worse.
However, the Met Office said that heavy rain and dust storms would hit some parts of Sindh, including Karachi, on Tuesday. This was after the city’s “feels like” temperature reached 51°C at around 2 p.m. on Monday.
Sardar Sarfaraz, the chief meteorologist for Karachi, said that the weather is being affected by a low-pressure system that is currently located south of Gujarat in India. “Under this system, there is a likelihood of thunderstorms and rain in Karachi between June 26 and July 1,”
The Meteorological Department says that strong winds, dust storms, and thunderstorms will also hit Mithi, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Tando Allahyar, Badin, Thatta, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Naushahro Feroze, Khairpur, and Dadu, in addition to Karachi.
The PMD also said that Bangladesh and the Arabian Sea are sending wet currents into the southern and eastern parts of Pakistan. Starting Thursday, these currents should reach the upper parts of the country. They will bring thunderstorms and strong winds to Sindh and other provinces.
