BALAKOT: In an effort to reduce the possibility of a glacier collapse and avert any possible fatalities, the Kaghan Development Authority (KDA) has begun to demolish glaciers at a number of sites in the Kaghan Valley.
Additionally, travelers have been cautioned to use caution when snapping pictures close to glaciers. KDA Director General Shabbir Khan and KDA Deputy Director Aminul Hassan Khan ordered the authority’s technical personnel to destroy the melting glaciers right away after learning of the risks they posed.
“We cut seven glaciers along the Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad Road and Lake Road because they became hollow due to the rapid melting of snow in the hot weather,” the KDA Assistant Director told reporters a few days ago. This action was taken in response to the discovery earlier this week of two Punjabi tourists buried alive after a hollow glacier collapsed on the Saiful Muluk Road.
As a result, workers were stationed at glacier areas to alert tourists to the potential hazards, and four glaciers—including the Lami Patti glacier—were destroyed. It is anticipated that this endeavor will drastically lower the hazards to visitors’ lives.
