SAO PAULO: As it looks to continue growing in the fruit industry, Abu Dhabi-controlled fresh food manufacturer Unifrutti is extending its presence in Latin America with two purchases in Peru, building on a prior purchase in the area.
Following its acquisition of Verfrut, a fruit production company in Chile and Peru, in January, the company said on Saturday that it has struck an agreement to purchase both AvoAmerica Peru and Bomarea from US-based Solum Partners and Alpine Fresh.
With an emphasis on agriculture to raise its profits and strengthen food resilience in the United Arab Emirates, the Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund turned to agriculture to take ownership of Unifrutti, which distributes 500,000 metric tonnes of fresh fruits annually throughout the world. This took place in 2022.
The recently acquired businesses cultivate blueberries and avocados, two new markets for the business.
