LAHORE: Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the core leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), feels that Imran Khan’s political relevance must be acknowledged in order to achieve political stability in the nation.
In an unofficial interview with reporters at Kot Lakhpat Jail, Qureshi discussed his forty-year political career and said that until the last year, when hundreds of cases were brought against him, he had never been charged with anything.
“Regardless of differing opinions, Imran Khan is a political reality in Pakistan and acknowledging this is crucial for the country’s political stability,” Qureshi said in response to a query.
Referring to the case of Nawab Akbar Bugti, the former guardian of the tomb of Sufi saint Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya Suharwardi described the treatment meted out to the feudal ruler as ‘unjust’ and stated that Bugti was not anti-Pakistani.
He demanded an end to the practice of calling people traitors, pointing out that during the previous 75 years, these allegations have been recklessly leveled at people.
Qureshi referred to Mahmood Khan Achakzai as a “true democrat,” arguing that no one who upholds democracy and the constitution can be deemed a traitor.
