The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chose its leaders on Wednesday, following polls within the party last week.
Notifications signed by the new PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan say that Chaudhary Parvaiz Elahi was named Central President of the party and Shah Mahmood Qureshi was named Vice Chairman of the party.
The party said in another message that Firdous Shamim Naqvi, Senator Saif Ullah Abro, Qasim Khan Suri, and Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani would be their central vice presidents.
As ordered by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the party that used to be in power held its own elections on Saturday and chose Barrister Gohar Ali Khan as its new head.
The new party chairman was chosen without any opposition. Imran Khan, the former head of the PTI, had recently put forward Khan for the job.
Niaziullah Niazi, who is in charge of intra-party elections, announced the results from a voting place in Peshawar. He said that all of the candidates won by a majority vote within their own party.
It was ruled “highly objectionable” by the ECP on November 23 that the PTI’s internal polls held in June of the previous year were invalid.
