In a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi, a stalwart of the PML-Q, who reiterated his decision to support PTI chairman Imran Khan’s call for dissolving the provincial assembly, President Arif Alvi said on Thursday that “there is no final word in politics” and “decisions need to be made keeping in mind the wider interests of Pakistan.”

Alvi stressed that the nation “demands unity, unanimity, and political tolerance from all of us” at the meeting, which was also attended by MNA Hussain Elahi and the son of the Punjab CM, Moonis Elahi, according to a statement released by the Presidency.

Alvi, a member of the PTI, has been attempting to mend fences between his group and the ruling coalition.

However, the public assertion of two parties’ diametrically opposed positions on instant elections has dampened the negotiations.

Alvi stated his intention to “resolve things peacefully” in his meeting with PML-Q leaders in Lahore.

He also believed that the nation would soon see the emergence of “better pathways”.
The leaders reportedly spoke about “matters of mutual interest” as well as Pakistan’s current political and economic predicament, according to the statement.

They also discussed how to strengthen the nation’s economy.

The president was informed by CM Elahi on the ongoing development initiatives in Punjab, and he emphasised his commitment to offering the province’s residents relief.
Elahi emphasised in a tweet that he owed the Punjab government to Imran and was standing with him following their meeting with President Alvi.

The PTI chairman had previously stated that on December 17 he would reveal the date for the dissolution of the Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa assemblies.

According to reliable sources who spoke to The Express Tribune, President Arif Alvi briefed the PTI leader on a series of meetings he had with PML-N members.
The efforts, however, did not result in “any wins,” as both parties made it clear that they were unwilling to give up their respective stances.

Alvi was apprised of the Centre’s position on the demands made by the former prime minister at a meeting with a PML-N group that included Federal Minister Ayaz Sadiq and Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar.

The tete-a-tete with coalition government leaders in the President’s House reportedly lasted 45 minutes, and topics covered included the nation’s economic and political climate, as well as legislative affairs.

It was decided that talks on topics pertaining to the adjournment of assembly or the end of the current term of office will continue.

Additionally, President Alvi and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar have had numerous discussions in Islamabad about matters pertaining to elections, the economy, and security.

The government refused to hold talks with conditions attached, therefore the conversations remained fruitless.
