GAZA:
Palestinian health officials reported that at least thirty Palestinians were killed on Saturday as a result of an Israeli airstrike on a school in Gaza that was housing displaced people. Israel claimed that the strike was directed at the compound’s resistance combatants.

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, there were over 100 injuries and 15 children and 8 women among the dead, according to the Hamas-run government media office.

The Israeli military asserted that it minimized civilian losses by taking action against Palestinian fighters operating out of the area.

Some of the injured, who were covered in blood, arrived on foot to Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir Al-Balah after ambulances transported them there.

Images from Reuters showed flames in the vicinity and people going back to the bombing scene to see how their possessions were doing. In the playground, walls were blown and debris was strewn, causing damage to some cars.

A displaced woman at the school named Um Hasan Ali said how her daughter was hurt in the strike and rushed to the hospital. Her daughter had just returned from medical treatment in Egypt. Another woman, Ibtihal Ahmed, emphasized the innocence of the injured taking refuge in Khadija School by describing hearing the heavy bombing and witnessing people running towards the impact site.

Health officials reported that 14 individuals were killed by Israeli attacks in Khan Younis earlier in the day. According to military reports, weapons were seized and resistance fighters were killed. Nine more Palestinians were killed earlier, according to medics, by airstrikes in Al-Bureij and Rafah.

Israel disputes accusations made by UN and humanitarian experts that it uses excessive force and neglects to offer safe havens to civilians.

Nabil Abu Rudeineh, a spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, attributed the attacks to US backing for Israel.

With frequent Israeli raids and Palestinian street attacks, the violence in the West Bank—which was already on the rise prior to the Gaza war—has gotten worse. After Palestinian gunmen opened fire on an Israeli army station, wounding a soldier, an Israeli drone struck and killed one individual in Nablus on Saturday, the military reported.

negotiations for a ceasefire

In order to talk about a truce in Gaza and the release of Hamas hostages, CIA Director William Burns was scheduled to meet in Rome with his colleagues from Egypt and Israel as well as the prime minister of Qatar. Israel’s response to the most recent plan was sent to Washington on Saturday, according to Israeli network Kan, amid continuous efforts to break the impasse.

Over 39,000 Palestinian deaths have been documented by Gaza’s local health officials since the Israeli offensive began, without making a distinction between combatants and non-combatants.

Israel calculated that almost one-third of the Palestinian deaths were due to fighting, having lost 328 soldiers. The operation began in retaliation for an October raid in southern Israel, spearheaded by Hamas and leaving over 1,200 Israelis dead and 250 hostages.
