KARACHI:
The Sindh province has recently encountered many climate-related issues, ranging from devastating floods to increasing cyclones and skyrocketing temperatures.

Millions of people have been impacted by natural disasters like the floods in 2010 and 2022, which emphasizes the province’s critical need for proactive climate resilience measures.

The Sindh Education and Literacy Department and the Sindh Community Foundation (SCF), which is committed to environmental concerns, have cooperated in recognition of this urgent need. They are starting a ground-breaking program to use education to counteract the negative effects of climate change. Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Jacobabad, Matiari, Dadu, Hyderabad, Tharparkar, Sanghar, and Khairpur are among the districts that are being targeted.

Notable people from the Sindh Teacher Education Development Authority (STEDA) Rasool Bux Shah, Curriculum Wing Chief Advisor Dr. Fouzia Khan, Secretary of the Sindh Education and Literacy Department Zahid Ali Abbasi, and Executive Director of SCF Javed Hussain attended the signing ceremony that officially launched this initiative. Speaking at the event, Zahid Ali Abbasi emphasized how aggressively the government is incorporating environmental and climate change topics into the curriculum. He emphasized the transformative power of teaching children environmental stewardship and climate resilience at an early age, pointing out that campaigns like tree planting drives are essential to ensuring the sustainability of the environment in the future.

Dr. Fouzia Khan, the Curriculum Wing Advisor, emphasized the crucial connection between educational justice and climate change, especially for marginalized groups. She emphasized how crucial it is to create an educational system that is strong enough to survive the disruptive effects of climate change.

Renowned climate change activist Javed Hussain highlighted the initiative’s alignment with the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and placed it within the larger framework of global sustainability goals.
