LAHORE, Pakistan: On Saturday, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore lifted the arrest warrant that could not be released on bail for Marriyum Aurangzeb, leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), after she showed up in court to hear a case that had been made against her.
Last September, a case was filed against Javed Latif, who used to be the information minister and leader of the PML-N. He was accused of spreading religious hatred and calling the former head of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) a non-Muslim on a TV talk show.
Then, on November 25, 2023, ATC Judge Abher Gul issued an arrest warrant for Marriyum that could not be released on bail because she did not show up to court. Latif’s arrest warrants were cancelled because he showed up to court.
Today, the court told her to turn in a written decision from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) about the other person charged, and they also took away her arrest warrants because she had already shown up in court.
The case will not be heard again until January 6, 2024.
The party leader told the media today that the case against her was “created” when “they” (the PML-N) said that Imran, the former prime minister, would attack the government.
A person who had a case filed against her was now being accused of what happened on May 9. She also said that the person had stolen £190 million and called it the biggest theft in the history of the country.
It’s important to note that the first information report (FIR) was filed by Irshadur Rehman at the Green Town Police station while Punjab was led by PTI leader Pervaiz Elahi.
She told the media that Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the PML-N, was removed from power because he didn’t pay his son. Marriyum slammed the PTI, saying, “They steal and then wonder why the economy of the country has gotten worse.”
Her criticism of the PTI leaders included saying that Imran used his power as prime minister to get richer, and she also said that they were “stubborn” afterward.
“You will have to answer if you sacked Jinnah House.”
Marriyum also said that Nawaz was facing false cases in court and that the IHC had declared him free of any wrongdoing. He did this by pointing to the “London plan.”
It was Marriyum who said that the people of Pakistan would elect Nawaz as prime minister a fourth time and that the economy would get back to where it was in 2017.
“Today it’s the young people who are unemployed, not the former chairman,” she slammed Imran. She also said that people would vote for Nawaz on February 8.
