The impasse continues with a NA status. The speaker is unwilling to accept collectively. PTI resignations.
The decision, the Speaker reaffirms, will be made in accordance with the Constitution of Pakistan as well as the rules and regulations of the National Assembly.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) delegation met with Speaker of the National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Thursday, but the discussion came to a stalemate since Ashraf would not accept mass resignations from PTI National Assembly members (MNAs).
However, the PTI delegation insisted that the speaker accept the group resignations.
The PTI team met with the speaker at Parliament House to discuss the confirmation of PTI legislators’ resignations.
The delegation included former speakers Asad Qaiser and Qasim Suri as well as PTI chief whip Aamir Dogar, former minister of state Dr. Shabbir Qureshi, Faheem Khan, Attaullah, Amjad Khan Niazi, Tahir Iqbal, and Zahid Akram Durrani.
The decision about the confirmation of resignations would be taken in accordance with Pakistan’s Constitution and the National Assembly’s rules and regulations, the meeting’s speaker stated.
He emphasised that each member would receive a separate call for resignations.
The delegation of the previous ruling party presented the speaker with written demands, stating that the members had all jointly resigned to clear the path for general elections in the nation.
On the other hand, the NA speaker has reportedly called the PTI back to the House and said, “Elections are only a few months away, come to the Parliament and play your job,” according to sources in the speaker’s office.
Sources added that the PTI members made their return to the NA contingent on the declaration of a timetable for the general elections and asserted that the PTI has the public’s majority mandate.
Following the meeting, the NA speaker addressed the media and claimed that the conversation with the PTI delegation took place in a “nice atmosphere.”
The speaker will call the member who submitted the resignation to confirm that there is no pressure on them, he continued, noting that it is required in the Constitution that resignations be written by hand.
The speaker continued by saying that he had let the delegation know that, in his capacity as speaker, he must consider the Constitution as well as the norms and regulations.
According to Ashraf, the nation requires reconciliation and that “as members, we should come to the House and work out a solution to the difficulties.” Furthermore, he added, PTI will respond following consultation with the party leadership.
The speaker continued by saying that gaining political advantage did not improve the situation.
Following the meeting, former speaker Qaiser told the media that the delegation had informed the speaker of their concerns.
The speaker, he continued, repeated specific resignations. Those whose resignations were accepted, as we stated, did they come to you? The speaker did not respond to this, Qaiser continued.
According to Qaiser, the government is currently “delaying everything because they are fleeing the elections.”
According to former deputy speaker Suri, the fundamental goal of PTI is to approve these resignations.
