LAHORE: A party leader who is on the manifesto subcommittee said that the party’s slogan of “citizen supremacy” should be changed to include respect for state institutions as well. This would make the slogan more in line with the party’s policy.
The PML-N is struggling with the idea that it is the “king’s party,” which is a name they want to get rid of. At first, they tried to defend themselves by saying that they were only fixing wrongs.
Though the party tried to explain itself, its reasons were not taken seriously because it seemed to be getting special treatment and favors.
In response to claims that they were cozying up to the establishment, the party has said that Nawaz Sharif is a blue-eyed figure who works for the people, not the establishment. Recent efforts by the PML-N to make alliances and attract powerful people, including those seen as hatchlings of the establishment, have led to claims that they are the new “selected.”
In response, the party said that the trust and faith people had in Nawaz Sharif’s leadership was what made it possible for them to reach out to electables and regional parties, and so on. A member of the party, who asked to remain anonymous, agreed that his group needed to get rid of the idea that it was against the establishment.
He said that his party needed to change how it thought about civilian dominance now that everyone was on the same page. He said that civilian supremacy should not be taken to mean that the elected government is trying to weaken the state’s institutions. He also said that civilian supremacy meant respecting institutions and the law that applies to them.
Even before that, he said that civilian supremacy should start with building up civilian institutions and teaching lawmakers the basics of how to make laws and improve civilian institutions. The official said that, from what he knew, the party should put the slogan of constitutional sovereignty ahead of civilian supremacy.
How is that going to work when a lot of constitutional violations are being done to make sure PML-N has a smooth passage? He denied that any violations were being done for PML-N and said that party would figure something out. He said that the manifesto group would be a waste of time and money with no real benefit.
He said that a new line in the existing manifesto would, at the very least, talk about how great things were when PML-N was in power from 2013 to 2017. He said the only thing people wanted that could make a change was the economic road that the party had promised when Nawaz came back. But they don’t seem to have found anything yet.
