KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah declared on Thursday that the events of May 9, 2023, were not only an act of terrorism but also a well-planned plot by Pakistan’s enemies, who intended to incite enmity by focusing on the country’s institutions.
He was giving a speech at a nearby hotel as part of the Sindh Information Department’s Paigham-e-Aman program.
The provincial ministers Sharjeel Memon, Nasir Shah, Saeed Ghani, Sardar Shah, Ali Hassan Zardari, Riaz Shah Shirazi, and Mohammad Ali Malkani, as well as provincial secretaries, members of civil society, TV and film celebrities, anchors, and Shuhada (martyrs)’ families attended the conference. Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah also attended.
Memorizing Captain Karnal Sher Khan’s valor, Murad stated he accepted martyrdom on July 5, 1999, while engaged in combat with two Indian military divisions at Kargil.
The chief minister claimed, “The Indian army wanted to deface the brave soldier’s body, but their officer stopped them saying that the body of such a bold warrior should not be disrespected.” The officer also noted that Sher Khan’s gallantry was cited, and he pocketed the draft. Murad stated, “This is how we found out about the story.”
The Chief Minister compared the PPP leadership’s vision and sense of national cohesion to that of PTI founder Imran Khan, stating that some party members self-immolated following Shaheed Zulfikar Al Bhutto’s execution. “People believed that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto would exact revenge on those who killed her when she was elected prime minister, but she declared at a UN meeting that ‘democracy is the best revenge.'”
Murad stated, “After the death of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, some party members sang anti-Pakistan slogans, but Asif Ali Zardari publicly declared, ‘Pakistan khapey,’ meaning we need Pakistan. The statement made by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto that “democracy was the best revenge” was endorsed by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
The chief minister went on to say that [PPP leaders] Faryal Talpur and Sharjeel Memon did not incite party workers when they were jailed in spite of being given bail; rather, they faced such cases. “This is how a democratic party differs from a party that was forced on this nation through a conspiracy—which is now publicly known,” he insisted.
The chief minister spent meaningful time and took pictures with the Shuhada families and children after the program.
Speaking at the function, Sharjeel stated that sincere political groups, such as the PPP, had endured every conceivable sort of despotism and had even offered its leaders and laborers as mass sacrifices, but they had never rebelled against the government or its institutions.
During the show, big-screen footage of the May 9 event, arson, and attack on national institutions was also shown.
