The military’s media wing reported on Tuesday that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir stressed the significance of “maintaining optimum operational readiness” to counter hostile elements’ attempts to destabilise peace in Balochistan.

Inter-Services Public Relations reports that during his visit to the Balochistan regions of Khuzdar and Basima, he made these statements (ISPR).

According to the ISPR, the COAS received a briefing on the current security situation, the operational readiness of the formation, and the steps being taken to guarantee a safe and secure environment.

The army chief stressed to the troops the importance of maintaining maximum operational preparedness to resist hostile elements that are financed and supported by foreign powers from destabilising Balochistan.

The army commander was reported by the ISPR as stating, “We are aware of the sinister intents of external adversaries of Pakistan to upset the hard-earned peace in Balochistan.

According to Gen. Asim, the army is concentrating its deployment and operations on Balochistan to create a favourable atmosphere for people-centered socioeconomic development.

Earlier, Lieutenant General Asif Ghafoor, Commander of Quetta Corps, welcomed the COAS.

The senior military leaders of the nation swore to “battle against terrorists without any distinction” last month as a new wave of strikes in the nation signalled the return of the scourge of terrorism.

General Syed Asim Munir, the head of the army, oversaw a meeting of the corps commanders at the GHQ where the resolution was reiterated.

Gen. Munir presided over the second military commanders’ meeting since Gen. (ret.) Qamar Javed Bajwa hung up his uniform last month after serving a lengthy term in that position. After the initial huddle, the military did not publish a statement, though.

The military leaders’ meeting took place in the midst of an uptick in terrorist attacks across the nation, most of which were perpetrated by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an outlawed group that unilaterally revoked a ceasefire in November, effectively putting an end to a start-stop negotiation process mediated by the Afghan Taliban.

The TTP, which the military completely destroyed in a decisive kinetic assault, has established safe havens in Afghanistan, from whence it has been commanding its terrorist activities in Pakistan.
