KARACHI: The application to unblock the national identity cards of the officers facing departmental and judicial action for stopping the demolition of an unlawful building in Lyari was accepted by the Sindh High Court on Monday.
Where is this building, the lawyer for the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) was asked by a two-member court led by Justice Salahuddin Panhwar? And why is it going to be destroyed?
According to the SBCA’s attorney, the three-story Lyari building was built unlawfully and was being dismantled in accordance with court orders.
Would a wealthy man’s home be demolished in this manner, questioned Justice Salahuddin Panhwar? Where did the SBSA officials wish to go, the court asked? The petitioner is a deputy director of SBCA, according to SBCA counsel, and he or she wishes to perform the Hajj.
The judge was taken aback and said, “They’re going to the Hajj after accepting bribes to permit illegal construction.” These policemen do not deserve to perform the Hajj, said Justice Panhwar. Are they going to get their sins pardoned now that they’ve done all of this?
However, the SBCA officials’ plea was approved by the court. The court ordered NADRA to release the ID cards of five officials, including Imtiaz Shaikh, the deputy director.
The SBCA officers’ national identity cards had to be blocked by the court since they were not following the directives.
