ISLAMABAD: The Indian government has imposed a ban on Pakistani-based Vidly TV’s over-the-top (OTT) platform, apps, and social media accounts in the country. Vidly TV had been streaming historical events, the plight of minorities under growing Hindutva menace, and was growing in popularity among the Indian population.
The Indian government prevented a streaming video on demand (OTT) platform located in Pakistan and known as “Vidly TV” from broadcasting a web series under the justification that the contents of the series were in violation of India’s national security and integrity.
According to reports from the most prominent media outlets in India, the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued an order using the emergency powers granted to it by the Information Technology (IT) Rules 2021 to ban Vidly TV’s website, as well as two mobile applications and four social media accounts.
The over-the-top (OTT) channel’s online series revealed, among other things, the destruction of the Babri Mosque in Ayodhya, Operation Blue Star, the blast in Malegaon, and the blast on the Samjhauta Express.
