Thousands of ecstatic Ecuadoreans celebrated their country’s historic triumph against the host nation of Qatar in the opening game of the soccer World Cup on Sunday in several locations across the nation of Ecuador, which is located in South America. The game was played in Qatar.

Enner Valencia, a veteran striker, scored both goals for Ecuador in their opening game of the tournament, a 2-0 victory over Qatar’s team in the Group A match. Valencia scored on a penalty kick and then a header in the first half, giving Ecuador a perfect start to the tournament. It was the first time ever that the host nation of the World Cup was defeated in the tournament’s opening match.

Fans cheering on their national soccer team with the traditional chant of “Yes we can” filled restaurants, public squares, and shopping centres across the country in various parts of the country. The fans were wearing Ecuador’s national soccer team jerseys and carrying Ecuadorian flags in honour of the team known as the “Tricolor.”

Jenny Espinosa, 33, who went with friends to a shopping centre in the city of Ibarra, which is located in the north of the country, to watch and support the squad said, “I feel immense emotion and I have no words, I can’t describe it.” “We are one Ecuador, we are one fist, and we have to support the squad no matter where they are,” he said. “We are one Ecuador.”

Fans in the country’s three largest cities, Quito, Guayaquil, and Cuenca, gathered in public parks to watch the game on giant screens and celebrated the team’s victory by dancing, singing, and waving flags after the match was over.

Hugo Pena, a taxi driver of 35 years old, was rejoicing on one of Guayaquil’s main streets when he was asked how he felt about his team’s victory. He replied, “It was exciting to see our team win.”

“Let’s hope our next match against the Netherlands goes well, let’s hope they give us a nice result, and let’s hope we can go to the next part of the competition.” The events were also attended by President Guillermo Lasso.
