On Monday, Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan of the Lahore High Court requested a response from the Electoral Commission of Pakistan (ECP) about a petition submitted by Punjab Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, a former chief minister of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), requesting that the ECP change the electoral symbol of a “donkey cart” with another sign, the “peacock.”

Amir Saeed Rawn, the attorney for the petitioner, contended that the Supreme Court had granted petitioner Elahi permission to run for general elections and that he is running for the seat of provincial assembly from the PP-32 Gujrat constituency.

As a result of this, petitioner Elahi submitted an application to the returning officer, seeking that the peacock be used as his election emblem.

On the other hand, the RO asserted that they had not ever received the application. Following that, petitioner Elahi was awarded the “donkey cart” to use as his electoral emblem. In his appeal, he asked the court to overturn the judgment made by the RO and to issue a directive to the involved quarters with the intention of assigning them the peacock as their electoral emblem.
