Only “interim respite” was granted to Elahi; he will be required to take a vote of confidence: According to the interior minister, Sana Chief Minister would be required to take a vote of confidence based on the suggestion of the governor.
Rana Sanaullah, the minister of the interior, has stated that the Lahore High Court (LHC) has only provided “interim relief” to Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi by reinstating him as the chief minister of Punjab on Friday. This statement was made in response to Elahi’s reinstatement as chief minister.
He stated that Elahi has provided promise to the court that he will not dissolve the Punjab Assembly, and he added that the court would issue its ruling on January 11 after listening to both parties’ arguments. He made these statements while speaking to a private television channel.
“The advise of the governor will require the chief minister to hold a vote of confidence in the government. After the judge’s judgement, I have no doubt that he would comply with the order. Following the conclusion of the vote of confidence, the decision to dissolve the assembly lies solely within your purview “he continued.
Regarding the suicide vehicle bomb assault that took place earlier in the day in the I-10 district of Islamabad, Sanaullah stated that rather than simply worrying about terrorism, we should keep attentive in order to prevent terrorist acts from taking place.
He praised the bravery of the police officer who had to give his life to stop the terrorist attack.
Earlier, the LHC made the decision to reinstate Elahi as the Chief Minister of the Province of Punjab after receiving a promise from the leader of the PML-Q that he would not dissolve the Punjab Assembly.
Elahi’s case, which challenged Governor Punjab Balighur Rehman’s act of de-notifying him as the province chief minister, was considered by a five-member bench presided over by Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh. Elahi’s petition was submitted in response to the act.
After the leader of the PTI provided an undertaking that he would not dissolve the provincial assembly until January 11, the court announced its orders and also reinstated the Punjab government.
The hearing will resume on January 11 once the court has deferred it.
