ECP has been requested to declare its verdict in the PML-Q chair case, and in response to a request from the Elahi group, the ECP has stated that it will “attempt” to expedite the decision regarding Shujaat’s standing as the head of the party.
ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, acting Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi and other party members from his camp went to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to demand the publication of its decision.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) made the decision to depose the party’s president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and general secretary Tariq Bashir Cheema in July and replace them with new candidates within ten days.

The intra-party elections are set for August 10 without the approval of the party president and secretary general, according to an application Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain submitted to the ECP.
On the basis of the petition, a four-member ECP panel led by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja prohibited the party from conducting internal elections for the time being. On August 18, the panel reserved judgement on the matter.
Amir Saeed Rawn, Pervaiz Elahi’s attorney, appeared before the ECP today and urged the panel to render a decision as soon as possible because “Punjab would be holding elections shortly.”
Party tickets can only be distributed following the ECP’s decision, he continued.
At the time, there was also talk of Pervaiz Elahi joining the PTI, but Rawn said “all depends on the ECP’s ruling.”
In response, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Member of the ECP questioned whether a written request for an early announcement of the verdict had been made.
The attorney informed the electoral body that “that request was filed” four months prior.
In response, the ECP members declared that they will “attempt to publish the verdict shortly” about Shujaat’s position as party leader.
a gathering at a junction
It should be mentioned that Pervaiz Elahi’s party membership was suspended by Chaudhry Shujaat on Monday as a result of his remarks questioning the party’s merger with the PTI.
Elahi, as well as Senator Kamil Ali Agha, Moonis Elahi, and Hussain Elahi, have received show-cause notices from the PML-Q.
The PML-Q was registered in Shujaat’s name, hence the party could not have been combined with the PTI at Elahi’s whim.
Over the years, the two PML-Q leaders have gained notoriety for their keen insight into national politics, which ultimately contributed to the rise of the party in the political realm. However, it is also difficult to dismiss the devious plans and Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain’s part in them. The trio has effectively carried on Chaudhry Zahoor Elahi’s political heritage.
The younger generation of the family has reportedly abandoned the customs after coming of age politically and inheriting the powerful political legacy left by the Chaudhry brothers in Gujarat.
The “ginger group” is currently on the verge of becoming a separate political entity.
The family is at a crossroads following the no-confidence vote and the change in allegiances, and this crossroads is tainted by internal disagreements because there are two main camps inside the party: one that supports the PML-N and the other that supports the PTI.
Given that his son, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, wanted to join the current coalition government as a federal minister, Shujaat supports the PML-N. Wajahat, Shujaat’s younger brother, and Chaudhry Hussain Elahi, his son, take the opposite tack and want to support the PTI.
Chaudhry Shafaat Hussain, Shujaat’s youngest brother, has distanced from the family and has remained silent about their views.
