Fawad claims that assemblies will be dissolved within a week or two.
The PTI leader says the party is ready to take a vote of confidence and is only waiting for MPAs to return to Pakistan.
Senior leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, stated on Friday that the Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa assemblies will be dissolved eventually, whether it took a week or two.
He was addressing the media following Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi’s reinstatement as Punjab’s chief minister by the PTI-allied Lahore High Court (LHC), which did so after receiving a guarantee from the leader of the PML-Q not to dissolve the Punjab Assembly.
The country will move toward general elections, he said, adding that the PTI disagrees with the commitment made in court. “Assemblies will be dissolved no matter what… whether it takes a week or two, they will be disbanded.”
Fawad stated that the PTI-led coalition in the province was prepared to accept the vote of confidence and suggested that they might do it before the court-set deadline of January 11.
He said, “We merely mentioned that we are waiting for our MPAs who are not currently in the country,” and accused Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman of misconduct for “illegally” de-notifying CM Elahi.
Fawad applauded LHC’s ruling and stated that the restoration showed the governor’s notification to be invalid and without legal standing.
“An elected chief minister cannot be expelled by a “chosen” governor. I ask the president to take the Speaker’s letter into consideration and to start the process of removing the governor from office “said he.
In the meantime, PTI’s Mian Aslam said during a separate press conference that the country would progress toward economic stability after political stability and that political stability would only arrive after general elections.
He asserted that in attempting to remove CM Elahi, the governor erroneously construed the Constitution. He said, “He sought to use his authority like a president used to use his authority to enforce Article 58-2B in the past.
After receiving a guarantee from the PML-Q leader that he would not dissolve the Punjab Assembly, the LHC earlier reinstated Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi as the provincial chief minister.
A five-member bench, presided over by Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh, heard Elahi’s petition challenging Governor Punjab Balighur Rehman’s decision to de-notify him as the province chief minister.
Following the PTI leader’s submission of an assurance that he wouldn’t dissolve the provincial parliament before January 11 and the court’s announcement of its directions, the Punjab cabinet was also reinstated.
The hearing was postponed until January 11 by the court.
