Syed Murad Ali Shah, the Chief Minister of Sindh, stated in KARACHI that the geopolitical balance of power has recently shifted from the West to the East. He also noted the rise of Asia, particularly through ASEAN, a resilient Africa, and, most significantly, China with its expanding reach through its Belt and Road Initiative and a resurgent Russia.

He made this statement while addressing the Pakistan and the Changing Global Order 75th Anniversary Conference of The Pakistan Institute of International Affairs (PIIA) at a nearby hotel.

He said the PIIA has brought on the table every subject of contemporary importance in the changing global order, which would be addressed by a galaxy of intellectuals and diplomats from Pakistan and outside.

It would take time for the shifting global order to reach a new balance, he predicted.

According to Shah, hostilities and divides around the world are a result of both historical and geographical factors.

As a result, he said, “a concerted approach to all concerns and challenges within and outside Pakistan is the need of the hour.”

According to Shah, “We are the beneficiaries of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which will provide significant economic benefits to our nation as the programme highlights the importance of the development of Gwadar Port for Pakistan’s economy.” The CM claimed that there were numerous unresolved problems in our area.

He stated that the Kashmiri people’s agony and determination to determine their own future persisted unabatedly and that “the unresolved Kashmir issue and the persistent cruelty of the Indian government against the Kashmiri people is a subject of worldwide concern.”

According to Shah, the stability in Afghanistan presents a challenge to all regional players.

In addition to border security issues, Pakistan also has food and water security concerns, he noted.

The CM stated that Pakistan, the fifth-largest nation in the globe, has been a dynamic and forward-thinking force on the international stage.

In the evolving international order, he said, it was one of the nine officially recognised nuclear powers.

He claimed that Pakistan was a responsible nuclear nation that has always used nuclear energy for good.

Shah emphasised that Pakistan is one of the top nations contributing peacekeepers to the UN forces. “Even as a young nation, Pakistan stood alongside countries battling against colonial rule and lobbied for their independence from their colonial masters,” Shah added.

The Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), one of the largest regional organizations in the world that has always tried to build consensus and played a positive role in these organizations, are intergovernmental organizations that Pakistan is a member of, he continued.

The CM stated that many nations, including Pakistan, who are not to blame for the impending climate catastrophe are suffering from its impacts. The CM claimed that the current flooding was caused by climate change, which has wreaked havoc on our nation.

He stated, “Providing relief to people displaced by the floods has been a big task for my government, but we have poured our hearts and minds into the efforts to rehabilitate them.

According to the CM, Sindh is the first province to pass the landmark “The Sindh Child Marriages Restraint Act, 2013” and the “Domestic Violence, Prevention, and Protection) Act, 2013”.

When these laws are used by the victims—which could take some time—they will stabilize our society.

According to the CM, Pakistan’s Gawadar Port is significant to Pakistan due to its advantageous position and access to the Arabian Sea.

The CM stated, “Overflowing rivers, melting sea ice, and food insecurity are all endangering our future and causing new tensions among rival nations at the top of the world,” and he added that specialists were now researching the intersection of climate change and national security.
