According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, on Sunday at the Joint Staff Headquarters in Rawalpindi, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza assumed his position as the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC). This was announced by the Inter-Services Public Relations. RAWALPINDI (ISPR).

According to the information provided by the ISPR, the ceremony was attended by a large number of currently active and retired officers from all three services, in addition to the former CJCSC.

The military’s media wing reported that the Joint Services guard delivered the salute as the newly-appointed CJCSC arrived at the site. The guard was described as having “smartly turned out.”

According to the Islamic State Public Relations (ISPR), General Sahir Shamshad Mirza saw the honour guard and the march past.

On Thursday, President Dr. Arif Alvi gave his approval to a summary that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had submitted him on the appointment of General Syed Asim Munir as the next army commander and General Sahir Shamshad Mirza as the next chairman of the joint chiefs of staff committee.

On the list of seniority, the positions held by General Munir and General Mirza, respectively, were first and second. As a result, the two critical positions were filled by the most senior generals available following General Bajwa.

The position of the most senior officer in the military, which is technically held by General Mirza but is more of a ceremonial one, was formerly held by General Nadeem Raza but has since been replaced by General Mirza.

In the past, the majority of army leaders have held the position of chief of general staff (CGS), which is an important role that General Mirza had held before becoming Corps Commander Rawalpindi.

Since the CGS is in charge of both the operational and intelligence directorates, he is commonly referred to as the “de facto army chief.”

Earlier in his career, he had also held the position of director general of military operations (DGMO).

Those who are familiar with General Mirza well attest to the fact that he has a positive status inside the military. He is not at the centre of any controversy, and there is not much back and forth about whether or not he should run.
