ISLAMABAD:
According to a media report, the federal government has advised all of its ministries and provincial departments to take the appropriate cybersecurity precautions to avoid official data being breached or posted on the dark web.

The advisory has recommended a number of actions, including the use of two-factor authentication on all email, social media, and banking accounts; avoiding the installation of dubious software and pointless browser plugins; and never forwarding or clicking a link shared by an unknown sender via email or WhatsApp.

A portion of the internet that is hidden from search engines is known as the dark web, sometimes known as the darknet. According to the survey, users are usually anonymous, untraceable, and pay primarily with cryptocurrency. It also stated that criminals, terrorists, hostile intelligence agencies (HIAs), and non-state actors utilise the dark web.

The alert, headed “Leakage of Sensitive Data on Dark Web,” says that the dark web contains 96% of all data available on the internet and that its anonymity makes it a “portal to the world of crime.” The advise cites a few of the crimes committed on the dark web, such as hacking, extortion, and financing of terrorism.

The user is encouraged to take steps to prevent personal and official data from being exposed to cybercriminals and from further leaks on hacking forums, including the dark web, according to the alert. It recommended users to avoid looking at dark web sources and to be cautious when browsing the internet.
