Where did you go?
Hadiqa Kiani: I took a bit of a tour around Southern California and Nevada.
What made you go here?
HK: My sister and her kids live in Las Vegas so I thought I would take my son out on a trip to visit them.
What did you pack?
HK: I think many Pakistanis who travel, try to travel as light as possible because we usually have the intention to shop while abroad. So, I only brought the essentials.
What was favorite meal/restaurant?
HK: There were a few really great places. My top three would be Din Tai Fung in Glendale, CA, VegeNation in Las Vegas, NV, and Al Watan in Hawthorne, CA for great Pakistani food.
What was the highlight of your trip?
HK: Spending time with my family!
Favourite shopping destination?
HK: I love the little boutiques and shops on Rodeo and also on 3rd in Los Angeles – sometimes you can really find some unique pieces.
Some sights worth seeing?
HK: The Grand Canyon is definitely an epic sight to see but I was probably most impressed by the Seven Magic Mountains, which are right outside of Las Vegas. They look quite odd from afar but up close, they were really magical.
What are some spots for a night out?
HK: First of all, I suggest going out on weeknights instead of on the weekends because you will free yourself from a lot of traffic and tourists. After that, it depends on what you’re into. In Vegas, my family just enjoyed getting donuts or some fun snacks and hanging out by the pool.
Travel essentials?
HK: Passport, phone, portable charger, and the company of family.
Any travel tips you would like to share?
HK: The only tip I can give is to have a positive outlook on any experience you are about to take while you are travelling!
