The secretary of the Establishment Division has been summoned by the Election Commission of Pakistan to ISLAMABAD to explain why the inspector general of police and deputy commissioner of the federal capital have not been replaced.
Immediate reporting on the transfer of the Islamabad IG and deputy commissioner is required by the ECP, who has ordered the secretary of the Establishment Division to do so.
The secretary received a letter from the electoral body.
To transfer the Islamabad IG and deputy commissioner, the ECP had previously sent two letters to the secretary. The transfer of the Islamabad IG and deputy commissioner was not carried out as per the directives of the ECP.
“Conducting transparent elections is the primary responsibility of the Election Commission,” states the Constitution in Article 218(3).
To help the Election Commission run the elections, all federal and provincial institutions are required to do so under Article 220.
The Islamabad IG and deputy commissioner’s case has been scheduled to be heard by the ECP on December 26. The secretary of the Establishment Division has been ordered to make an appearance in person.
