Investigation into deaths allegedly caused by “toxic gases” from companies has reached Keamari, where it was conducted by a team from the Department of Health.

KARACHI: The preliminary report on the Ali Muhammad Goth Keamari incident, in which 18 individuals passed away from a cold and fever, was released by the Sindh Health Department.

The study states that out of the 16 men, 30 women, and 25 children who had medical examinations, five were found to have TB, with the results of the other individuals still pending.

The report states that a medical inquiry is ongoing in this regard and that the cause of the fatalities has not yet been determined.

Additionally, 48 individuals who had developed symptoms had their Covid-19 levels checked; nevertheless, all 48 individuals had negative test results.

The locals have reported a weird odour, and dangerous gas is still being released in the neighbouring neighbourhoods.

The cause of mortality in the area is being investigated by a team from the Department of Health and Environment. Residents in the region shouted in front of the media as they alerted the DC to the situation at the factories that have been contributing to local environmental pollution.

DC Keamari Mukhtiar Abro stated, “We do not have any information about the deceased’s identity or cause of death. In response to concerns, we shut down factories, and a committee has been assembled to look into wrongful death cases.

Khurram Sher Zaman, the leader of the Sindh Assembly and a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), moved an adjournment motion in response to the deaths caused by deadly gas in Keamari Town.

Separately, the local factory’s poisonous gas leak and the deaths it caused have drawn the profound attention of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Coordinating Pakistan’s Committee.
