ISLAMABAD: The district administration has been given two days by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to decide whether to allow the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) to host a meeting in Islamabad.

PTI filed an application with the court, claiming that the district administration had not responded to their request and that the court ought to provide guidance in this area.

PTI Islamabad President Aamir Masood Mughal’s petition was heard by IHC Chief Justice Aamir Farooq. On behalf of the petitioner, attorney Sher Afaz Marwat appeared before the court.

The petition names as parties the Secretary of Interior, Chief Commissioner, Inspector General of Police, Deputy Commissioner, and SSP Operations. PTI plans to have a nonviolent demonstration on March 23 at 10 p.m. in Islamabad. On March 15 and 18, formal written requests were filed to the deputy commissioner of Islamabad in order to obtain a NOC; however, as of yet, no response has been received.

PTI staged three nonviolent protests in Islamabad following the general elections. In the petition, the party asked for permission to hold a rally at Parade Ground, F9 Park, or D Chowk on March 23 or March 30.

The district administration is required by the court to make a decision about the application within a span of two days and subsequently submit a report to the Islamabad High Court.
