On Wednesday, Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan revealed that her brother had received a message from General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, the then Chief of Army Staff (COAS), offering Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly in exchange for an end to Imran’s protests, which began after he was removed from office.

Following his ouster in April of last year—the only prime minister in Pakistan’s history to be dismissed by a no-trust vote—Imran had initiated a nationwide protest.

During its three and a half years in office, Khan’s party faced challenges in maintaining its grip on power due to the betrayal and subsequent alliance formation with opposition groups that had previously opposed the PTI government.

It was a change of attitude for the former PTI chief, who had previously blamed the US for his deposition, to assert that his government’s overthrow was planned in Pakistan.

As he put it, “When all economic indicators were showing positive trends,” former army head General Qamar Javed Bajwa and the PDM parties plotted against an elected government.

“Imran Khan conveyed a message to me, stating, ‘In August 2022, General Bajwa approached me with an offer that if PTI ceased protests against regime change, a two-thirds majority for the party will be ensured in the National Assembly.'” Aleema Khan talked to the media after meeting with Imran Khan at Adiala Jail.

Our parents were born into slavery; we are free; and I will not bow down to anyone except God,” Imran Khan reportedly told Aleema Khan. Accepting enslavement in a free nation is worse than facing death.

According to Aleema Khan, who went on to emphasize the difficulties, just three or four journalists in jail are granted permission daily. At this time, the Adiala prison does not have an open trial. “The charges against Imran are without merit,” she continued.

Moreover, she claimed that every time the former prime minister Imran wins bail from one case, he gets involved in another, and that this is all part of a scheme to put him behind bars.
