A news statement states that Customs Intelligence uncovered a covert operation on Wednesday that involved the theft of non-duty paid diesel from the PARCO oil pipeline, which is a significant development.
It is estimated that the illicit operation, which had been quietly going on for quite some time, resulted in daily losses of millions of rupees, with a total impact in the billions.
The allegation claims that the smugglers secretly utilised a tunnel of 174 feet to retrieve diesel fuel that had not been paid duties.
A well-planned and performed raid by the Customs Intelligence Karachi, using an intelligence-based operation (IBO), uncovered this complex system.
Fuel smuggling within the country is sophisticated and developing, according to the modus operandi identified by Customs Intelligence. The operation uncovered a huge fraud involving a large amount of diesel that had not been paid in duty, which could have been worth billions of rupees.
During the raid, the Customs Intelligence team confiscated 65,000 gallons of non-duty/stolen diesel, with a value of Rs20 million. What this means is that the smuggling operation is massive, and the government is losing a lot of money every day.
“This case highlights a cunning strategy where the smugglers, in response to increased enforcement efforts by the Customs Intelligence and other law enforcement agencies targeting conventional smuggling routes and methods, turn to more creative and clandestine approaches,” it continued.
The successful operation was launched after receiving information on a ring of smugglers involved in the theft and sale of non-duty paid diesel from Faiz Ahmad Chadhar, the Director General of Customs Intelligence.
A groundbreaking discovery was the result of painstaking intelligence collecting and monitoring operations, with an emphasis on a questionable industrial site near Karachi.
The owner of an Edible Oil facility in Port Qasim was apprehended once his involvement was discovered. This is a major development in our quest to understand the intricate web of people responsible for this smuggling enterprise. Aside from figuring out how much money was lost over time, the current investigation is trying to catch more gang members.
By praising the operation’s accomplishment, Faiz Ahmad Chaudhary underscored Customs Intelligence’s steadfast dedication to fighting gasoline smuggling.
He commended the Director of Customs Intelligence Karachi and his team for their commendable efforts in combating smuggling, especially considering the little resources they had.
